Acupuncture and fertility
For various reasons more and more of us are leaving having children till later in life. According to recent statistics there was a 150% increase in women over the age of 40 having children between 1994 and 2010. In 2009, more than 100 women in Britain had babies in their 50s.
It is frightening to read that after the age of 35 a woman's fertility drops significantly.
In a world where we are used to getting what we want when we want it it there seems to be a clash between our modern 'have it all' society and our fundamental biological capabilities.
Luckily there are ways to help boost fertility and if you do find yourself going down the IVF route help is at hand to support you on this journey. Acupuncture.
Acupuncture and IVF
Most IVF clinics now offer acupuncture as an adjunct. And research shows that having acupuncture whilst undergoing IVF increases pregnancy rates by 10%. This is a significant increase when you consider that IVF success rates are heart-breakingly low - for women aged 35-37 it is 27.2%. For women aged 43-44 it drops to 5.1%.
Acupuncture should ideally be used in the run-up to starting IVF treatment and throughout. This is not always possible so at the very least do try and have treatment prior to egg retrieval, and before and after embryo implantation.
IVF clinics
I have three clinics in London, two of which are very suitably placed near IVF clinics so ideal to have the two treatments simultaneously. In Harley Street (near The Portland Hospital) and in Chelsea (near the Chelsea and Westminster and Kensington Wing).
